Russian FM slams Nikki Haley, calls her North Korea comments ‘bloodlust’

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley of “bloodlust.” Earlier this week, Haley said that the US is prepared to “utterly” destroy North Korea’s regime if a war erupts.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov slammed on Friday US Ambassador to the UN Nikki Haley’s recent remarks regarding North Korea. According to Lavrov, Haley’s statements constitute “bloodlust.”

During an emergency UN Security Council meeting earlier this week, Haley warned that the isolated state’s recent actions have brought “the world closer to war” and issued a direct threat to Pyongyang: “If war comes, make no mistake, the North Korean regime will be utterly destroyed.”

She added that her country is not interested in an armed conflict with North Korea but clarified that Washington will not hesitate to respond if need be. “We have never sought war with North Korea, and still today we do not seek it,” she said. “If war does come, it will be because of continued acts of aggression like we witnessed yesterday.”

The US ambassador also urged the countries that still have relations with North Korea to sever them. “Yesterday’s missile launch was more advanced than previous launches,” she explained. “No one can doubt that this threat is growing. No one can doubt that North Korean dictator is getting more aggressive in his obsession for nuclear power.”

The conflicting positions of Moscow and Washington regarding the correct response to North Korea’s latest missile test has brought the relationship between them to a new low. Yesterday, Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev said that “the state of the relations is horrible.”
