UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Jordan’s Prince Zeid bin Ra’ad Zeid al-Hussein, sent out letters to approximately 190 companies informing them that they have been blacklisted due to their operations in the “occupied Palestinian territories”. This is the term used to describe the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Golan Heights.

The blacklist targets many prominent Israeli businesses as well as multinational corporations. The list reportedly includes some 30 American firms as well.

Some of the companies listed are large Israeli and international corporations, like Israel Aerospace Industries, Hewlett-Packard, Motorola, Ahava cosmetics, the Cellcom and Partner telecommunications companies, and RE/MAX real estate.

Others are Israeli franchises, including the Cafe Cafe restaurant chain, Angel’s Bakery, the Paz gasoline company, Nesher beer, and the Rami Levy and Shufersal supermarket chains. Israeli pharmaceuticals corporation Teva, and the country’s two largest banks, Hapoalim and Leumi, are also said to be listed. Oddly, Bezeq, the Israeli telephone company, Mekorot, the water company, Amisragas, a natural gas provider, and Egged, one of the national bus companies, are also included.

Though the list has not been published, Channel 2 news reported that many American companies have also been targeted. Included in the list are Priceline.com, TripAdvisor, Coca-Cola, Airbnb and Caterpillar. Some German companies also are on the list.

According to Yedioth, a Hebrew language news service, some of the Israeli companies are considering filing a lawsuit against Hussein and the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC), claiming the motivations behind the effort are political, and that other companies operating in disputed areas are not subject to similar scrutiny.

Yedioth also reported that the Israeli Foreign Ministry believes the UNHRC received information about these companies from left-wing non-governmental organizations (NGOs) acting under the guise of humanitarian services. Many of these NGOs are funded by foreign anti-Israel sources.

Though the UNHRC does not have any legal status and the blacklist does not bear any penalty, the anti-Israel move is having an effect. The Economy Ministry’s Office of Strategic Affairs reported that several companies that do business in Israel are wary of possible repercussions and are choosing to end their operations in Israel. Some do not have business links with blacklisted companies but are even going so far as to cut off their ties to Israeli companies that are inside the ‘Green Line’.

“These companies just can’t make the distinction between Israel and the settlements and are ending their operations all together,” a senior Israeli official told Haaretz. “Foreign companies will not invest in something that reeks of political problems – this could snowball.”

The U.S. has threatened to withdraw from the UNHRC if the list is published.

North Korea is likely just months away from being capable of striking
the United States with a nuclear missile, according to two top U.S.
officials.


CIA Director Mike Pompeo told a forum in Washington on Thursday he is
“deeply worried” about the advancing threat from North Korea and the
possibility it could spark a nuclear arms race across East Asia.



“We ought to behave as if we are on the cusp of them achieving that
objective,” Pompeo said when asked about Pyongyang’s pursuit of missile
technology that could launch a warhead to targets in the U.S.


“They are so far along in that it’s now a matter of thinking about how do you stop the final step?” he added.

McMaster: We’re running out of time


U.S. National Security Adviser, Gen. H.R. McMaster said later on
Thursday that Washington was racing to resolve the situation, short of
using military force.


“We’re not out of time but we’re running out of time,” McMaster said,
speaking at the same event. “Accept and deter is unacceptable.”


The comments by Pompeo and McMaster come as tensions between the U.S.
and North Korea have been steadily rising following Pyongyang’s latest
nuclear test last month, it’s sixth overall, and repeated tests of what
intelligence officials have assessed to be both intermediate and long
range ballistic missiles.


But despite warning that North Korea is just months away from being
able to target the U.S., the CIA’s Pompeo cautioned there are still
questions about just how “robust” the North Korea nuclear threat has
become, and whether Pyongyang will be able to deliver multiple nuclear
warheads to nuclear targets.


“There’s always a risk. Intelligence is imperfect,” Pompeo said,
adding there is evidence Pyongyang may be getting help from Iran, citing
“deep conventional weapons ties as between the two countries.”


He also warned that each North Korean test makes an arms race ever more likely.


“You watch as North Korea grows ever closer to having its capability
perfected, you can imagine others in the region also thinking that they
well may need that capability,” he said.

Putin suggests force won’t work against North Korea


On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin warned against the use
of force to eliminate the North Korean nuclear threat, suggesting it
would not work.


“Talks about a preventative, disarming strike — and we hear both
hints and open threats — this is very dangerous,” Putin said during a
speaking engagement in Sochi.


“Who knows what and where is hidden in North Korea? And whether all
of it can be destroyed with one strike, I doubt it,” he said. “I’m
almost sure it is impossible.”


North Korean officials have also repeatedly warned the U.S. against any provocations.


Pyongyang’s deputy envoy to the United Nations, Kim In Ryong, warned Monday that war could break out at any moment.


Other North Korean officials have accused the U.S. of making
preparations for war, citing the presence of the USS Ronald Reagan, a
nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, conducting exercises to the east of
the Korean Peninsula.

The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a series of bills targeting both Iran and its Lebanese terror proxy Hezbollah.

In a voice vote, a unanimous majority of Democratic and Republic lawmakers approved four resolutions: H.R. 1698 – Iran Ballistic Missiles and International Sanctions Enforcement Act; H.R. 359 – Urging the European Union to designate Hizbollah in its entirety as a terrorist organization; H.R. 3342 – Sanctioning Hizbollah’s Illicit Use of Civilians as Defenseless Shields Act; and H.R. 3329 – Hizbollah International Financing Prevention Amendments Act of 2017.

The Iran bill imposes additional sanctions on individuals or entities that help the Islamic Republic develop ballistic missiles and other conventional weapons. The bill is a followup to sanctions passed against Iran, as well as North Korea and Russia, in July. Wednesday’s resolution would expand those Iran sanctions, and requires the Trump administration to create an implementation plan.

The bills targeting Hezbollah seek to impose economic sanctions on members of the terror group who have violated human rights, and to levy penalties on entities—including financial institutions and foreign government agencies—that support Hezbollah.

“Hezbollah is one of the principle agents of violence and chaos in the Middle East. They are Iran’s proxy terrorist army, and confronting them in this manner is a good step towards minimizing the harm they and their backers in Tehran can cause. We look forward to the president signing this bill into law,” said Pastor John Hagee, founder and chairman of Christians United for Israel, regarding the legislation on Hezbollah’s financing.

H.R. 359, meanwhile, addresses the fact that the EU has previously only designated Hezbollah’s “military wing” as a terror group, in 2013. The U.S., Canada, the Netherlands, Israel, Bahrain, the Arab League and the Gulf Cooperation Council have fully designated Hezbollah as a terrorist organization.

The American Jewish Committee (AJC) urged the EU to take appropriate action.

“Pressing the EU to do the right thing, and finish what the 28 members started to do in 2013, is essential to effectively countering the global Hezbollah threat,” said AJC Associate Executive Director for Policy Jason Isaacson.

Bubonic plague, a terrifying disease that once killed off half the world’s population, is breaking out in Madagascar, defying the best efforts of world health organizations attempting to prevent its spread through East Africa. The key to understanding this dread disease lays in the Bible, which describes its Egyptian origins – and its terrifying role in the end-of-days.

The number of deaths in Madagascar has almost doubled in the past week, with 124 dead and over 1,200 infections diagnosed. The majority of cases, 67 percent, were the pneumonic form of the disease, which is airborne and highly contagious, spread via coughing or sneezing. Though international health officials insist the risk of the disease spreading to other regions is low, they have set up operations to prepare for such an occurrence in the nine East African nations adjacent to Madagascar.

The strong reaction to the recent outbreak is understandable. Bubonic plague in the 14th century, also known as the Black Death, was one of the most devastating pandemics in human history, resulting in the deaths of an estimated 75 to 200 million people in Eurasia and in Europe. If untreated, the disease has a 100 percent mortality rate, and the pneumonic form can be fatal within 12-24 hours.

But the disease may have even deeper roots in human history. The sixth plague in Egypt, boils, may very well have been bubonic plague, whose characteristic symptom is boil-like skin lesions that form black ulcers.

It shall become a fine dust all over the land of Egypt, and cause an inflammation breaking out in boils on man and beast throughout the land of Egypt. Exodus 9:9

An outbreak of the bubonic plague in Egypt would be consistent with what scientists know about the disease. In 2010, scientists traced the plague to ancient Egypt. Ancient cultures lived close to their livestock, and the plague was transferred from the animals by fleas. While exploring ruins in Egypt, Egyptologists found 3,000-year-old remains of Nile rats and used fine sieves to discover the remains of fleas, both carriers of plague.

The Black Death may have made another Biblical appearance. The fifth and sixth chapters of the Book of Samuel describe how the Philistines captured the Ark of the Covenant, placing it in their pagan temple in Ashdod. The idol in the temple was overturned and the city was struck by a disease, leading the people to return the Ark. Along with the Ark, the Philistines gave the Jews “aphlei zahav”. This is normally translated as golden hemorrhoids, though some Biblical scholars translate this item as golden boils.

You shall make figures of your hemorrhoids/boils and of the mice that are ravaging your land; thus you shall honor the God of Yisrael, and perhaps He will lighten the weight of His hand upon you and your gods and your land. I Samuel 6:5

Significantly, five golden rats, hosts to the flies that carry bubonic plague, were included in the Philistines’ gift. When describing this gift, the narrative in Samuel makes reference to the plagues in Egypt.

Don’t harden your hearts as the Egyptians and Pharaoh hardened their hearts. I Samuel 6:6

Though the numbers of deaths and infections resulting from the current outbreak may seem relatively small, any outbreak of bubonic plague is cause for concern. Rabbi Rami Levy, an end-of-days lecturer from Jerusalem, does not believe this outbreak is a significant threat, but he warned that it may become one in the apocalyptic future.

“There will certainly be another plague that destroys a significant part of the world population,” Rabbi Levy told Breaking Israel News. “But not until after the War of Gog and Magog,and specifically against the people who came out against the Jews.”

Rabbi Levy cited the prophecies of  Zechariah.

“All of the catastrophes that are happening now, the storms and earthquakes, are exceptional but they are not nearly on the scale of what we will see before Moshiach (Messiah),” Rabbi Levy said. “Right now we are just seeing wake-up calls, reminders that Moshiach is on the way.

“The plague that comes after Gog and Magog will be even worse than what the world saw in the Middle Ages,” the rabbi stated.

A number of major international health organizations are currently involved in aiding Madagascar and preventing the spread of the plague. The World Health Organization, Unicef, the Red Cross, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control have all mobilised emergency plans in the country, while also setting up programs in South Africa, Mauritius, Tanzania, La Réunion, Mozambique, Kenya, Ethiopia and Comoros, to prevent a pandemic. They are also operating in Seychelles, where several cases of the disease have been diagnosed.

Marc Elias, a lawyer representing the Clinton campaign and the DNC, retained Fusion GPS, a Washington, D.C., firm, to conduct the research. Fusion GPS hired dossier author Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence officer with ties to the FBI and the U.S. intelligence community.

Elias and his law firm, Seattle-based Perkins Coie, retained the firm in April 2016 on behalf of the Clinton campaign and the DNC. Before that agreement, Fusion GPS’ research into Trump was funded by a still unknown Republican client during the GOP primary.

The Clinton campaign and the DNC, through the law firm, continued to fund Fusion GPS’ research through the end of October 2016, days before Election Day.

Fusion GPS gave Steele’s reports and other research documents to Elias, the people familiar with the matter said. It is unclear how or how much of that information was shared with the campaign and DNC, and who in those organizations was aware of the roles of Fusion GPS and Steele.

CLINTON CAMPAIGN, DNC PAID FOR ANTI-TRUMP DOSSIER RESEARCH:

THE DOSSIER HAS BECOME A LIGHTNING ROD AMID THE INVESTIGATIONS INTO THE TRUMP CAMPAIGN’S POSSIBLE CONNECTIONS TO RUSSIA. TRUMP TWEETED AS RECENTLY AS SATURDAY THAT THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT AND FBI SHOULD “IMMEDIATELY RELEASE WHO PAID FOR IT.”

Steele previously worked in Russia for British intelligence. The dossier is a compilation of reports he prepared for Fusion. The dossier alleged the Russian government collected compromising information about Trump and the Kremlin was engaged in an active effort to assist his campaign for president.

U.S. intelligence agencies later released a public assessment, which asserted that Russia intervened in the 2016 election to aid Trump. The FBI has been investigating whether any Trump associates helped the Russians.

Trump has adamantly denied the allegations and has dismissed the FBI probe as a witch hunt.

Fusion GPS’ work researching Trump began during the Republican presidential primaries when the GOP donor paid for the firm to investigate.

When the Republican donor stopped paying for the research, Elias, acting on behalf of the Clinton campaign and the DNC, agreed to pay for the work to continue.

THE CLINTON CAMPAIGN PAID PERKINS COIE $5.6 MILLION IN LEGAL FEES FROM JUNE 2015 TO DECEMBER 2016, ACCORDING TO CAMPAIGN-FINANCE RECORDS, AND THE DNC PAID THE FIRM $3.6 MILLION IN “LEGAL AND COMPLIANCE CONSULTING’’ SINCE NOV. 2015 — THOUGH IT’S IMPOSSIBLE TO TELL HOW MUCH OF THAT WORK WAS FOR OTHER LEGAL MATTERS AND HOW MUCH OF IT RELATED TO FUSION GPS.

After the election, the FBI agreed to pay Steele to continue gathering intelligence, but the bureau pulled out of the arrangement after Steele was publicly identified.

The dossier was published by BuzzFeed News in January. Fusion GPS has said it did not give BuzzFeed the document. Officials have said the FBI has confirmed some of the information in the dossier. Other details have yet to be verified and may never be. source

On Tuesday, ten documents that are part of an enormous collection, went on display in New York, giving a rare glimpse into Lithuanian Jewish culture from before the Holocaust. The documents are part of a large and precious trove, saved through a series of brave acts.

The Yidisher Visnshaftlekher Institut [Yiddish Scientific Institute] (YIVO)announced they had discovered 170,000 documents previously believed to have been destroyed by the Nazis in World War II. The trove contains unpublished manuscripts by famous Yiddish writers as well as religious and community documents. Among the finds are letters written by Sholem Aleichem, a postcard by Marc Chagall, and poems and manuscripts by Chaim Grade. The collection also includes a 1751 astronomy manuscript with descriptions and drawings of the solar system and an 1883 Russian censor’s copy of a theatrical poem by Abraham Goldfaden, founder of the modern Yiddish theater.

“The troves discovered in Lithuania are the most important body of material in Jewish history and culture to be unearthed in more than half a century, since the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls,” said David Fishman, professor of Jewish history at The Jewish Theological Seminary, who went to Lithuania in July to evaluate the documents.

“Not only were the Jews annihilated, but also the record of their history was destroyed,” he said. More than 90 percent of Lithuania’s Jewish population was killed in the Holocaust.

They are “startlingly large in volume, and remarkably diverse in character and subject matter,” Fishman said. “All of East European Jewish life passes through your eyes. It will take researchers many years to digest and analyze these documents.”

The story behind the document is truly remarkable. When the Nazis occupied Lithuania, they ordered the majority Jewish documents and artifacts to be destroyed, while some documents and artifacts were sent to Germany to be studied by anti-Semitic researchers. 170,000 documents were hidden by a group of Jewish intellectuals known as the Paper Brigade in six different locations in the Vilnius ghetto.

After the war, the documents came into the possession of Antanas Ulpis, a Lithuanian librarian who defied a Soviet order to destroy the documents, storing the documents in the basement of St. George Church in the Lithuanian capital. They remained there until late 2016, when they were moved to the Martynas Mazvydas National Library of Lithuania.

In May of this year, authorities in Lithuania realized the importance of the artifacts that had been removed from the church. Lithuanian officials contacted the YIVO Institute for Jewish Research, which has worked to ensure the preservation of other document troves found in Lithuania.
