New Religion Worships ‘Divine Supercomputer’, But Is High-Tech Faith Old-School Idolatry?

A high-tech millionaire has founded a new religion based on the belief that artificial intelligence will surpass man, and proclaims that in the future, man will worship a divine supercomputer. But a rabbi who is an expert in the interface between religion and technology compared the new high-tech religion to old-school idolatry.

Anthony Levandowski, the key engineer behind much of the technology used by the multi-billion dollar self-driving car industry, filed paperwork in California two years ago creating a new religious organization called Way of the Future. According to Wired, Levandowski is currently between projects and is using his time to pursue his religion more seriously. Way of the Future is dedicated to “develop and promote the realization of a Godhead based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and through understanding and worship of the Godhead contribute to the betterment of society.”

Rabbi Moshe Avraham Halperin, head of the Machon Mada’i Technology L’Halacha (Institute of Science and Jewish Law) rejected the concept of a computer generated deity as proposed by Levandowski.

“This new religion states that man can make a new God for himself, in precisely the same manner as men 5,000 years ago did when they made a small idol of some strange creature they just thought up and called it God,” Rabbi Halperin told Breaking Israel News.

“Worshipping a computer is like bowing down to a tiny gold elephant.The only differences are that this new version has an on-off switch and needs to be plugged in.”

Rabbi Halperin pointed out the shortcomings of this high-tech version of God.

“They are saying that man can make God, program him, and also unplug him when things get unpleasant or out of control,” the rabbi said. “People who believe in a God they can entirely understand and control, are to be pitied. They simply do not understand what God is, or even what Man is. They believe in a God that is below us, not a God that is above us in heaven.”

Levandowski is not alone in considering the theological implications of AI. Some technologists believe that a supercomputer is going to usher in, or even be, the Messiah. Transhumanism is a growing movement that aims to transform the human condition by developing and making widely available sophisticated technologies to greatly enhance human intellect and physiology. Many transhumanists believe that humanity will enter a Messianic era referred to as the technological singularity, when AI is developed with intelligence equal to or beyond human beings. This level of technology is expected to be achieved within the next two decades.

In an article two years ago, Zoltan Istvan, head of the Transhumanist party, explained how this development will affect humanity, effectively making previous forms of religion obsolete.

The idea of teaching anything to an intelligence that could rather quickly be far smarter than humans is contradictory. Another possibility is that AI will teach us new things about spirituality that we never considered or understood. It may tell us how the cosmos were created, or whether we exist in some simulation theory, or even that there are many AIs before it—ones that are much more sophisticated than itself.

Not only do men of faith disagree with Levandowski’s belief in artificial intelligence, but many technologists also question the direction the field is taking. Using decidedly religious terms, Elon Musk, the founder of Tesla Motors and a pioneer in self-driving cars, warned that such smarter-than-human AI systems pose an existential threat to humanity.

“With artificial intelligence we are summoning the demon,” Musk said at a conference in 2014. “In all those stories where there’s the guy with the pentagram and the holy water, it’s like – yeah, he’s sure he can control the demon. Doesn’t work out.”

When Musk heard of Levandowski’s epiphany and his new religion, he was unimpressed, stating simply, “Just another day in the office.”

EDITOR’S NOTE: Shortly after I first got saved, back in the early 90’s, someone handed me a Chick tract called ‘Allah Had No Son‘ where it predicted the rise of Islam in the UK and the United States. People I showed it to mocked what they called “fundamentalist Christian hate speech” but guess what? Here in 2017, those predictions have come true with disturbing accuracy. You can take over a country by military jihad, but you can also take a country by biological jihad. That is precisely what’s now happening in England.

The 54-year-old ex-Army officer had said he wanted to move the party away from focusing on Islam after their manifesto earlier this year contained an “integration agenda” which was almost entirely about Muslims.

And the issue had been brought back to the fore when the controversial anti-Islam campaigner Anne-Marie Waters was the favourite to win the leadership election.

Mr Bolton, who pushed her into second place yesterday, signalled a softening stance on the issue when he spoke to the media, saying he had a “broad platform” and wanted to “move away from the focus on Islam”.

But he swung the focus right back to the religion this morning, when asked if he stood by his comments during the campaign that he was proud of “fighting Islam”.

He said: “There is a concern amongst the population writ large that there is an undermining through general immigration and the weight of numbers that we’ve got – and Islam as well – that our culture is being buried by this, being sort of pushed aside.

“That is a concern that we need to recognise is out there, there is a perception that is out there and we need to address it.” And in his first speech as leader this afternoon he said immigration is “overwhelming” our public services and said “multiculturalism is swamping or displacing our own British culture”.

TO SUPPORTIVE SHOUTS FROM THE AUDIENCE AT THE CONFERENCE IN TORQUAY HE SAID IT WAS “CHANGING OUR WAY OF LIFE” AND DEMANDED “OUR CONCERNS ARE HEARD”.

Mr Bolton said: “We presently have a net immigration that equates to the population of Wolverhampton or Hull every year.

“Immigration is overwhelming our public services, housing and communities. It is harming our culture, traditions and way of life. Some talk of multiculturalism, but are we not permitted to preserve our own British culture? Of course we are. And this party shall.”

He said: “Across the UK, people see their communities changing without their voice being heard and without any attempt to consult with them.

“Construction and housing developments are given the go –ahead without anyone caring to listen to the community. Doctor’s surgeries are being closed, police numbers are being cut and crime is increasing. Multiculturalism is swamping or displacing British culture.”

The new party leader, who once ran against Philip Hammond as a Lib Dem, called for an Australian-style points-based system for managing migration – but failed to lay out a cap on migration numbers.

Yesterday he told a press conference Islam was “more dominating” than Christianity but declared: “We need to look at the integration of all immigrant communities in this country.” He said as a former police officer there was “an issue” with face coverings but said focusing purely on banning the burka would not solve a security problem.

And he added: “I absolutely abhor the rhetoric that says we are at war with Islam.”

He tackled the subject again in his speech, which began with him walking out to Pharrell’s ‘Happy’ and waving a Union Jack as he slammed the “arrogance” of senior EU figures Donald Tusk, Guy Verhofstadt, Jean-Claude Juncker and Michel Barnier.

But he said they were only acting that way due to the lack of leadership from Theresa May, as he pulled apart her Florence speech for not having any detail on Brexit.

There were shouts of “betrayal” from the delegates as he slammed her plans for a transitional deal after we exit the bloc, keeping us under Brussels rule for an additional two years. And there were cheers when he said Britain should be prepared to walk away from the negotiations without a deal and go it alone.

Despite the hall being half-empty the crowd made plenty of noise as this previously unknown figure outside Ukip looks to be well on the way to galvanising what has been a fractured party since its electoral high point in 2015.

And he got the members worked up when he attacked the Prime Minister for making cuts to the armed services – suggesting the money is being used to pay off the EU in exchange for a deal.

Mr Bolton pointed out 1,000 Royal Marines are being made redundant and claimed we have “fewer main battle tanks than neutral Switzerland”. He added: “The government praises our servicemen and women whilst stabbing them in the back.”

And the party’s boss, their fourth in just over a year, went into his plans for the future of Ukip – promising a less top-down approach. He wanted to get candidates picked for seats earlier, after admitting the party were not ready for this year’s snap election, and would give branches more control of their finances.

Mr Bolton also plans to allow members to come up with policy ideas, and pledged to try and get more donors to help fill its empty coffers. But he finished by saying Brexit remains the party’s “core task”, telling the audience: “We must believe in our history, we must believe in our future and we must believe in ourselves.

“We must rouse ourselves, we must organise and we must lead. We must be vigilant and determined. Brexit remains our core task and to secure the future of our great nation is our core purpose. Failure is not an option!” source

POLICE SAY “IN EXCESS” OF 50 PEOPLE WERE KILLED WHEN A GUNMAN SHOT INTO A CROWDED MUSIC FESTIVAL ON THE LAS VEGAS STRIP, MAKING IT THE DEADLIEST MASS SHOOTING IN MODERN U.S. HISTORY.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The Las Vegas rooftop sniper has been shot dead, with little known about him other than he was a white male from Las Vegas. But police are also looking for 2 other people as well. They are Marilou and Geary Danly, a married couple with ties to the anti-Trump Resist movement and Obama’s Organizing For America group. This a developing story and we will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

UPDATED 09:36 AM – In a statement, police said that “approximately 406 people were transported to area hospitals and 50 are dead following Sunday evening’s shooting. Among the dead is an LVMPD officer who was off-duty at the time. His name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. There were also two on-duty officers injured, one of whom was upgraded recently from critical to stable condition. The other sustained non-life threatening wounds.”

UPDATED 09:13 AM – Shooter was on 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel in Las Vegas, not on the rooftop as originally reported. Reports now coming in of a woman in the concert audience shouting out to people that “they were all going to die” moments before shots started. We now also know that shooter Stephen Paddock had been in the hotel as a guest since last Thursday, presumably taking all that time to prepare a war room from which to attack. So it would appear that the attack was well planned out and methodical.

Sheriff Joe Lombardo said Paddock is believed to be the lone shooter. Police said he lived in Mesquite, Nevada, which is located outside of Las Vegas. Police also said they have located a person of interest, Marilou Danley, who was identified as Paddock’s roommate.

MORE THAN 200 PEOPLE WERE WOUNDED IN THE SHOOTING.

AMONG THOSE KILLED WERE TWO OFF-DUTY OFFICERS ATTENDING THE CONCERT, SAID LOMBARDO. AN OFFICER WORKING AT THE EVENT WAS CRITICALLY INJURED AND ANOTHER WAS WOUNDED, ACCORDING TO THE SHERIFF.

Police stated the city’s largest hospital, University Medical Center, is at capacity with other trauma units taking in the overflow. Fleeing attendees were also being picked up on buses and being sent to UNLV’s Thomas & Mack Center arena for shelter.

ABC News reported people were fleeing to the nearby airfield at McCarran Airport as the chaos took place. Witnesses reported hearing possibly hundreds of shots fired in rapid succession. Multiple ambulances were flooding the area to help victims.

A temporary groundstop was initiated for Las Vegas’ McCarran International Airport for departing and arriving flights.

There were reports of active shooters at other hotels on the Strip, but those were not confirmed by authorities and it was not immediately clear if the reports were a result of the mass chaos in the area.

THE NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE (NFL) MAY HAVE MORE THAN A PASSING CONTROVERSY ON ITS HANDS AS IT CONTINUES TO GRAPPLE WITH FANS’ REACTION TO THE PLAYERS AND STAFF “TAKE A KNEE” PROTEST DURING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM BEFORE GAMES.

EDITOR’S NOTE: From humble beginnings, the NFL has grown from a grassroots organization into a non-taxpaying, multi-billion dollar behemoth that is completely funded by the ongoing devotion and financial largess of its fans. From the overpriced tickets to the $350 authentic jerseys, fans have made the players millionaires and the owners wealthy beyond their wildest dreams. Then the NFL made a fatal decision, they decided to support the decidedly anti-American anthem protest, and the fans have overwhelmingly and rightly revolted. Yahoo Finance headlined its story about its poll with a finding of 62 percent of respondents who said they will watch less football — a percentage Yahoo determined based on how certain questions were answered or not answered:

“Here are the full survey results. The number of responses varies from question to question because some respondents skipped questions or were directed further down the survey based on answers they gave. A note about the results: In Question 9, 80% of respondents said they plan to watch less football on TV. But that’s only among people who answered yes to Question 8, asking if they have changed their behavior. When including the people who answered no to Question 8, the portion saying they plan to watch less football drops to 62%.”

But looking directly at results for each question on the survey also reveals that a majority of respondents said would watch less football and that they support President Donald Trump’s decision to speak out against the protests.

THE END OF NFL FOOTBALL?

The raw data shows that when asked, “What has changed about your relationship with the NFL?” 80 percent said they will watch less football on TV because of the controversy and more than 53 percent said they are more supportive of Trump since his remarks last month that the protests are disrespectful to the U.S., its flag and the men and women in the military and law enforcement who sacrifice to protect all Americans.

IN FACT, 77 PERCENT SAID THEY BELIEVE IT IS WRONG FOR PLAYERS TO KNEEL DURING THE NATIONAL ANTHEM — A PROTEST BEGUN IN 2016 BY A FORMER NFL PLAYER WHO CLAIMED HE KNEELED BECAUSE OF SOCIAL INJUSTICE IN THE U.S.

It’s also noteworthy that 79 percent of respondents said they are a football fan, which Yahoo Finance explained is a statistic in keeping with its decision to only survey people who “patronize the NFL.”

“Those findings all have financial implications for the NFL and its 32 team owners,” Yahoo Finance reported.

Calling it “one of the most divisive social issues in recent years,” Yahoo Finance said of its poll:

“In our survey, we wanted to suss out whether the anthem flap could deal a lasting financial hit to the NFL. The answers suggest it could. When we asked fans if the controversy would make them more or less supportive of the NFL, 71% said less and only 15% said more. Of those who said they are now less supportive, 74% said their change of heart was permanent, and only 3% said they felt it was temporary.” source

In response to crashing ratings, plummeting ticket sales, and a public backlash fueled by none other than the leader of the free world, Fox Sports has decided to cry Uncle! Becoming the first major NFL broadcast partner to publicly say that they will no longer air the national anthem.

Becoming the first major NFL broadcast partner to publicly say that they will no longer air the national anthem. Instead, Fox Sports is now saying that they will go back to what they had done in the past, namely, not showing the playing of the anthem during game broadcasts, according to Newsday.

Calling this year, “one of the more bizarre starts to the season that we have ever had,” Fox Sports President Eric Shanks released a statement saying: “The standard procedure is not to show them because of the way the commercial format works and the timing of the anthem to get to the kickoff,” Shanks said Tuesday at an event to promote Fox’s soccer coverage of the 2018 World Cup. “So I think we’re going to pay attention to events.

“Who knows what’s going to happen? A lot of time is happening between now and then. But I think the plan would be to get back to a normal schedule. I think that’s where we sit today on a Tuesday . . . It seems like there’s more than 24 hours in a day now, doesn’t there?”

But liberal sports reporters are already crying foul with the move to “get back to football.”

FOX IGNORES NFL PLAYERS KNEELING DURING NATIONAL ANTHEM DURING LIVE BROADCAST:

For the first time, players kneeling in protest were not shown during the telecast of the game. Fox Sports further decided to pull the plug on broadcasting the National Anthem at all to ensure that player protests would no longer have a forum.

Matt Yoder of Awful Announcing, for instance, is furious with Fox for taking away the players’ forum to protest against the country, especially because it will cut off a way to attack Donald Trump.

Yoder slammed Fox saying, “it’s impossible to go back to a normal schedule now when the NFL and its athletes are in the middle of a culture war with the sitting President of the United States.

“The anthem will be a huge story this week and likely will be throughout the remainder of the season as well,” the Awful Announcing writer insisted.

Clearly, Yoder and his liberal media pals want the turmoil to continue, want fans enraged even more, and want to give players who hate the country a platform to announce it to the world.

Yet, Yoder fails to realize something crucial to the equation: Fox didn’t decide to not air the anthem in order to sabotage the athletes in their “culture war” with President Trump. They decided to not air the anthem because the athletes have already lost the culture war with Donald Trump.

A fact that’s been driven home in a recent national survey which showed, not just how wildly unpopular the NFL protests have become, but also that most Americans agree with the president. If the athletes had won the battle of public opinion, and most Americans were either supportive or neutral to their cause, then the networks wouldn’t hesitate to show it. However, the athletes lost the battle over public opinion, bigly.

Which is why many teams are beginning to abandon the protest movement. Remember, despite the claim that these protests are not against the flag, the country, or our soldiers, that is absolutely not what the instigator of these protests said.

In his own words, former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick specifically said that his protests were a stand against the U.S.A.

This is what Kaepernick said of his protests last August:

I AM NOT GOING TO STAND UP TO SHOW PRIDE IN A FLAG FOR A COUNTRY THAT OPPRESSES BLACK PEOPLE AND PEOPLE OF COLOR. TO ME, THIS IS BIGGER THAN FOOTBALL, AND IT WOULD BE SELFISH ON MY PART TO LOOK THE OTHER WAY. THERE ARE BODIES IN THE STREET AND PEOPLE GETTING PAID LEAVE AND GETTING AWAY WITH MURDER
IN HIS OWN WORDS, HE TOLD US HE COULDN’T STAND UP FOR THE FLAG OR THE COUNTRY.

So, don’t fall for the revisionism. These protests are set to occur during the song that pays homage to this great nation, and the inventor of the protests was counting on just that to erect the platform for his stand against the United States of America. source
